In 1983, Mareva is created for developing and marketing Baquacil in France and german-speaking countries. « Baquacil » is the trade name of PHMB from Imperial Chemical Industry (I.C.I.) for the swimming pool water treatment sanitation.
In 1988, after 7 years of work of both companies, Baquacil is registered for a 3-year period for its use as a public pools desinfectant. |
In 1990, I.C.I. withdraw its Baquacil licence from Mareva’s.
Maréva buys the manufacturing process and manufactures PHMB, first through a tall manufacturer and then in its own facilities.
PHMB is manufactured by « Laboratoire PAREVA » which is just, at this time, a technical department of Mareva-Piscines & Filtrations. |

Mareva’s PHMB has 2 kind of uses :
- as a swimming pool water treatment product : Mareva is its own customer
- as a raw material, supplied to disinfection market via specialised partners
From 1990 to 2006, PHMB activity grew more and more amongst Mareva’s general activity.
During that period, the PHMB volume dedicated to desinfection market became more important than the swimming pool one.
On January 1st 2007, Laboratoire PAREVA becomes a self-governing company, but still 100% subsidiary of Mareva.
Main reasons of this operation are :
- This specific activity in Mareva was more and more oriented to the disinfection markets, which dictates are specifics regarding manufacturing, controls and quality criteria.
- The necessity to be sure that costs implied by our commitments to sustain PHMB facing Directive 98/8/EC (BPD) in order to be registered on the Annex I (positive list) are well known.
Now, Laboratoire PAREVA is a mono-product dedicated company which only activity, up to today, is to manufacture and supply market with a biocide substance : PHMB. |
